  19. From what I hear, there was - ahem - some involvement by Sony, and it 
  20. was by visiting the Sony research labs in the 70'ties you could actually 
  21. hear early digital. Innovation isn't 'local' anymore, it is GLOBAL!, and 
  22. the 'egg and hen' points are moot, Philips and Sony both were working on 
  23. getting 'digital' going, and ended up joining forces and agreeing on a 
  24. standard. However - early digital recordings were made on either Sony 
  25. equipment (for multitracking) or on the american 'soundstream' machine.
